Our Adoption Experience
Added 10/13/02: Well we just finished packing Saturday! It only took five or six hours to complete. It was really difficult to decide what to bring. But after a few intense discussions on what should stay or go we were done. :)
Today we are working on our picture book for the Baby Home. This is a book that contains pictures of family, friends, home, and favorite places. This is for the caregivers at the Baby Home. They enjoy seeing who the babies will grow up around, and what their lives will be like...
It looks like the weather will be fairly nice in Russia when we go this time. We have been monitoring it lately. The daily highs are upper 30s to 40. Then evening lows are in the 20s. I put links to the weather for Moscow, St Petersburg, and Nizhny on the Adoption /RU Links page.

Well our call for the first trip to Russia came on September 4th!! Tracy and I were so surprised to get it. October 21st is the day we are scheduled to see the babies!!! It will be a baby girl and baby boy.
We had thought it would be closer to the end of the year, but are very excited about it coming sooner! Our flight reservations were made on Saturday September 7th. I listed information about the itinerary below.
Our Itinerary For The First Trip To Russia
* Leave St Louis before noon on October 16th.
* Arrive in New York JFK airport late afternoon after a plane change in Hartford CN.
* Leave New York that evening. (October 16th)
We loose 9 hours traveling from St Louis to Moscow due to crossing multiple time zones.
* Arrive in Moscow Russia around mid-day on October 17th.
(Tracy's Birthday!! Yeah!!)
We'll celebrate Tracy's birthday and explore Moscow until Sunday October 20th. We want to visit the Kremlin, enjoy lots of Russia food, and maybe the Bolshoi theater.
* Sunday evening, October 20th we take a train to Nizhny Novgorod, arriving early Monday October 21st. The train will have a two person cabin for us to stay in. We have never slept on a train before.
* This is the day we see our babies for the first time!! :) We will see them 30-60 minutes on Monday and again on Tuesday. Believe me, we plan on taking a lot of pictures. Our stay in Nizhny lasts until the evening of October 22nd.
* Then we take an evening train to St Petersburg arriving early Wednesday October 23rd. Tracy and I will explore and enjoy St Petersburg for two days. Returning to Moscow on Friday October the 25th.
* Our last night will be spent in Moscow. We want to relax and have dinner, and probably watch the video of the kids over and over. :)
* Our flight home starts on Saturday October 26th when we leave Moscow.
* After a brief lay over in New York's JFK airport we will be on our final leg of our flight.
* We arrive in St Louis the afternoon of Saturday October 26th. We will gain nine hours when returning home. Actually we end up arriving a few hours later than when we leave Moscow. Due to the time differences...
We will put more details about our trip on the web site when we return.
Well, it looks like our second trip may be the week of Thanksgiving. We will pickup the babies on this trip!! We may not find out for sure until the begining of November...
We plan on putting more details about our adoption experience on this page. From how we decided to adopt, the steps we took to get things started, to hopefully bringing home the babies soon.
Please check back soon for new information.
